Throwback Thursday: 90s Popstar Hairstyles

One of the biggest trademark of the 90s is pop music. This was the era music videos went mainstream. Through MTV pop songs were broadcasted worldwide. Eventually, the popstars also became an international icon influencing young adults through fashion and culture. Let's take a look at the popstar hairstyle trend in the 90s.

Britney Spears

When she first came out her public image is sweet, pure and girly. Britney's signature hairstyle is beautiful and blonde. The soft bangs also give her a youthful and energetic look (which match her music style really well).

Christina Aguilera

In contrast to Britney's style Christina Aguilera image was a sexy, powerful independent woman. Her signature hairstyle is layered and sleek. Time to time you can see her in highlights and crimp styles.

Spice Girls

They're probably one of the most popular girl group of that era. Each spice girl represents a different "spice" aka personality. Same goes for the hairstyle!

Destiny's Child

Sexy, mature and independent sums up their image. Their fashion and hairstyle are always put together and womanly as seen above.

Natalie Imbruglia

Many of you might not remember Natalie Imbruglia but I'm pretty sure you've heard of her song "torn". She's known for her grungy style and short choppy hair (it was the pixie cut of that era).

I always wanted to do my hair like Ginger Spice, but my mom wouldn't let me color it!!! Now I'm glad she didn't but still, I used to be SO mad about it!
This post brings back so much childhood memories. I actually forgot about Natalie Imbruglia!
Britney was the prettiest during that time.

Create 8 Gorgeous Curls with a Flat Iron
If there is a styling tool you must invest in go with a flat iron. You can do all of the following with one simple tool: - Straighten your hair - Style your bangs - And create 8 different types of curls. You didn't read it wrong. Everyone knows how to use this beauty staple to for sleek hair, but not everyone realize the tool can do more. With the proper styling technique your hair can get curls, spirals, and waves. To Create soft curls similar to curling iron: Clasp a section of hair right above your ear, wrap the hair around your iron, and slowly glide through the section. SNL Perfectly Captures White Peoples Response To Beyonce.
Its been a week since the infamous half time show where the world finally seemed to realize that Beyonce was actually black. Ok, Ok, I'm kidding....kind of. But its been a week since she performed "Formation" and a week since her bad ass music video dropped as well and people are freaking the fuck out. It seems that a black artist taking advantage of such a public setting to use her art as a show of self expression and representation for serious issues her race is facing is just ... INSANITY! The internet has exploded with people criticizing Beyonce for "bashing police" and for being inappropriate to talk about police brutality at a sporting event. Sorry she made you feel so uncomfortable fellow white people. But the truth is, the song wasn't meant of us (although it is actually amazing.) And I'm confused how we can think we can comment and critique someones dialogue when it has NEVER happened to us. We white people can't actually understand being afraid of the police since we never had to be. Check out SNL's perfect skit that points out just how fucking cray everyone went...the day they realize Beyonce was black. Oh and by the way, she isn't a hypocrite in having police protecting her. Calling out Police brutality isn't calling all police bad, its pointing out that there are some people in power who are making the world unsafe for certain people. And that is not ok. Saying #alllivesmatter is the same as saying #notallmen. Pointless and uneducated.
The Meaning Behind Anime Hair Colors
For the longest time I've always wondered why Sailor Moon's hair is yellow while Sailor Mercury's hair is blue. Initially I thought it represented the planets they're associated with. However, after digging deeper into Japanese animation I found out hair color is frequently used as a mechanism to differentiate character type and personality. Black Characters with black hair usually have a strong sense of justice. They can be friendly and angry at the same time. Despite, their mysterious nature they are loyal and would do anything for their friends. Personality: Traditional, bipolar and a deep thinker. White Most often characters with white hair is either mysterious, ethereal, or old. If the character is a male, he usually have mix feelings and can be an anti-hero on a random good day. Female with white hair tend to be either magical or spiritual. Personality: Strong-willed, creativity and dignified. Grey Characters with grey hair has a mix persona from white and black. They are independent and usually have hidden powers Personality: Calm, modest and problem solvers. Brown This is a common color for the protagonist and often time they are seen as normal. However, you'll be surprise because characters with this hair color have interesting talents despite their boring appearance. Personality: Charming, practical and approachable. Blue Blue hair colored characters are not the type to seek advice but give advice. You may notice they often play the roles of teachers or confidants. They also have hidden supernatural powers. Personality: Smart, introverted, and mature Red Just like the color, characters with red hair are hot blooded. Most of the time they are feisty and adventurous. However, some male characters with red hair are more calm and discipline. Personality: Passionate, aggressive and opinionated Yellow Yellow hair characters have many sides. There are mainly different personalities but one thing that unite them is their positive vibe, stubbornness, high energy. You can call them the life of the party. Personality: Naive, confident, and romantic Green Characters with green hair have a unique energy. They're capable of healing and bring peace to destruction. Which is why the are often sided with the protagonist. Personality: Well-rounded, rejuvenating, and trusthworthy Purple These characters are royal and princess-like. They like standing in the spotlight and most of the time are restless and sometimes moody. Personality: Elegant, strong-willed and passionate. Pink This hair color signifies romance and innocence. Characters with this hair are daydreamers and have great desire to bring positive vibe to others. They are also prone to mask their sadness. Personality: Friendly, youthful, and cheerful
TBT: Fashion Icons of the Early 2000's
We all remember the early 2000's, and the girls who set the trends for us in our Teen People magazines. Forget Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston; for those of us who were at the most impressionable ages of 10 to 16 in the aughts, these teen idols ruled our worlds, and the clothes they wore made us want to dress and be like them. Let's take a group throwback and look at some of the teens and tweens who dictated early aughts fashion. Amanda Bynes In Amanda's heyday, she was quite the tween idol, and had a pretty recognizable style on top of that. Brightly printed pants and skirts were her thing, only turning to denim in the form of an often-worn stonewash denim jacket. Her tight-fitting tees were the understated point on her outfits, which were always topped off with mini ponitails and braids on the top of her head that didn't not resemble antlers. Jessica Simpson In the days of "Newlyweds," Nick and Jessica were a couple we all thought would last, and Jessica's All-American fashion sense seemed like everything. Though her off-duty tracksuits and trucker hats showed a disinterest in fashion, her southern stagewear was all the rage. Who else here bought a pair of cowboy boots hoping we could get the Daisy Duke look? No? Just me? Hilary Duff As Lizzie McGuire, Hilary Duff seriously influenced many of our tween years and, consequentially, what we chose to wear. Like Amanda, Lizzie wore many a wacky updo, but combined them with accessories galore, from headbands to hairclips to layered necklaces. For clothes, she had a much more pseudo-bohemian thing going on, wearing peasant tops and blouses with bell sleeves to match her bell bottoms. Mandy Moore This actress didn't have anyone fooled with her occasional belly shirts; she was a good girl at heart and we knew it and loved her for it. She encouraged us to go ahead with that bob or pixie cut; how else would we show off our favorite chandelier earrings. Her fashion sense was sugary sweet to match her personality, and she definitely encouraged me to wear more pink. Britney Spears It didn't matter if she wore jumpsuits or miniskirts or spandex or lace; what Britney had, we all wanted. Her style was a neverending whirlwind of sex appeal, which many of her fans were too young to understand at the time, but we knew we would never be her. Rhinestones and a bare midriff seemed like the key to her style, but who knows, the next day she might be wearing head-to-toe leather. Oh Britney, you always kept us guessing. Rihanna Remember when Rihanna frist blew onto the scene with "Pon de Replay" in 2005 and our worlds were changed forever? Forget what a true style star she is today; Ri Ri's early style made us all want to wear tops that began and ended with our boobs, toned down with baggy pants and chunky kicks. Never forget oversized hoop earrings, which were the ultimate sign your style was "funky". Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen When Mary Kate and Ashley neared the end of their reign of movies together, they were at the height of their tween popularity. We couldn't all have a beautiful identical twin to coordinate outfits with, but we could crimp our hair and layer short sleeves over long sleeves and look almost as cute as them. Lindsay Lohan Who didn't covet Lindsay's punk-meets-pop style in the days of Freaky Friday? Her long red locks were too cool (especially with blonde streaks), and her cargo pant, tight top combinations were to die for. So early 2000's, so lovable. If only we knew how little we'd be seeing her in ten years. ...and then we have Christina Aguilera, and I don't know what I can say about her look, other than that my mother definitely didn't want her to be my style icon. Everything about her was sexy, cool, and dirrty. I stayed in the Lizzie McGuire style, but who did you model yourself after?
7 Ideas to Upgrade Your Hair
Two times in a year I would switch up my hairstyle, at the end of December and mid-June. December is understandable. New year, new hair! If you think about it 12 months is a really long time. June is the perfect month to get a brief makeover to freshen up for the rest of the year. Whenever you're ready, here are some cool ideas to switch up your hair. 1. Wig Not sure if you notice but in recent years wigs is rising in popularity. Part of the reason is Kylie Jenner has made wig a thing. In addition, Ladies don't want to damage their hair by changing their hair color every other month. Therefore, wig is a cheaper and safer option to look fab, minus all the mess. 2. Extensions Wigs can be bulky and some people just hate wearing a helmet of hair over their own hair. Hair extensions is another solution to obtain new color without the use of dyes. The great thing about extension is you have full control of placement and style. The option is endless, so be creative! 3. Temporary Hair Color This option is for those of you who don't like having anything on your hair. There are products like temporary hair color rinses, chalk hair, eye shadow hair that will go away in one wash. No commitment but it does take some work. 4. Traditional Color Change You can always rely on the good old method of coloring your hair. Box formula can give you instant results without having to book an appointment or spend a lot of cash. However, professional color service will give you gorgeous and more long-lasting results. Highlights such as ombre and sombre are styles you might want to opt for this summer. 5. Smart Haircut If you want to get your hair short but don't want to go all in, take baby steps. It's okay to have an evolving haircut. Start getting a few inches and then go shorter until your desired final cut. Experiment and see what works for you! 6. Texture Change Long hair can be annoying during summer and you might be considering to trim it. However, if you want to keep the length but is bored with your current hair you can try changing the texture. It's easy to give your hair new looks. Simply use heating tools, braids, or twists. The best part, it works on any hair length. 7. Bangs This is a subtle yet big change to any hair. One little trim can alter your entire style. You don't have to commit to it right away. You can always test it out with faux bang clip-in.
Save Your Hair From Color Damage
I was looking through pictures of girl groups hairstyles within a year their hair could change up to 4-5 times. Regular people like myself will probably get their hair done 1-2 times a year. I guess one reason to explain the short lifespan of their hairstyles is kpop fans expect the idols to look different for new comeback and concept. So, before dropping any announcement, Hairstyle is usually one of the biggest hint for comebacks. Truth is their hair must be extremely damage from the excessive use of chemical and heat styling. However, they are celebrities and they must have hair professionals to maintain the health of their hair. Otherwise, we'll be staring at limpy hair, and split ends on stage. Celebrity Hair Secrets: 1. Protein mask. This is normally used to strengthen the hair before styling. 2. Hair serum and oil. A dollop of this will quickly give your hair shine and moisture. 3. Supplements. No matter how many products you use you need to get enough nutrients to maintain over health and beauty. For those of you who color your hair or use heat styling tool often these are the products that can help keep your hair healthy. Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Best for dry and damaged hair. Coconut oil is packed with moisturizing benefits. if your strands are extremely dry you can leave this on overnight then wash your hair in the morning to get glossy, healthy hair. Nexus Emergencee Reconstructing Treatment. The texture for this hair pack is really unique. It is gel-like but if you apply it before your hair washing routine you'll end up with super soft hair. Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3. Olaplex is the best hair treatment for pre and post hair coloring. Professional colorist will use it in the coloring process. Sometime coloring the hair might take 1-2 days so a take home treatment will be offered to rebuild broken hair. Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil You can honestly use any hair oil but this is one my favorite. It battles frizz and soften the ends of hair without weighing it down.
If Celebrities Were Just Ordinary People
1. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West We know Kimye as being somewhat as American royalty. Kanye being an overly confident singer/rapper and Kim Kardashian maintaining her reality show and massive business empire. But in a parallel universe, Mr. West is working at an insurance company while Kim works as a dental assistant. They are your average middle class family living outside of San Diego. They named their child Stacey West and they were unable to have another child due to Kim's infertility. The medical costs would have been far too much to afford to try to have another child. 2. Beyoncé and Jay-Z Beyoncé and Jay-Z are artists making millions of dollars. Bey is Queen B and they are worldly known. The power couple goes on elaborate vacations and discards expensive luxury items because they can. However, in another universe Beyoncé and Jay-Z live in the Bronx. Jay-Z works as a teller at the local Chase Bank while Beyoncé works in Manhattan as a secretary. They have a little girl named Blue which is still a name of contention with the rest of the family. Like who would name their kid a color? 3. Jennifer Aniston One of the hottest and loved middle-aged celebrities out there. Aniston is a legend in Hollywood. However times have come at a rough time for Jennifer Aniston in a parallel universe. She gained far too much weight in college leading to her obesity and she continues to drink like a fiend. Aniston has been charged with illegal usage of prescription drugs. 4. The Kardashian Family They're you're favorite Californian family yet you're still unsure as to why you're so obsessed with them. They have a massive business empire that doesn't show any signs of slowing down. In this parallel universe, the Kardashians now live in Bakersfield. The women are growing older and wrinkled but they still go get their hair and nails done. Kris Kardashian is now a widow and will probably join eharmony soon. She never had Kendall or Kylie because she never remarried. She watches celebrity Caitlyn Jenner on the screen and is very supportive. "Wow," she thinks wondering what it would be like to be famous. 5. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seem to be the couple that everyone wants to be like. They have amazing lives and an abundance of children. They are both gorgeous and they have everything they've ever wanted. In a parallel universe, Brad and Angelina never got married. They live in Appalachia and are simply friends with benefits. Brad goes to the local bar frequently while Angelina is a help at the post office. Angelina never settled down to have kids because she was diagnosed with breast cancer and she can't afford to get chemo. 6. Britney Spears 90's pop sensation is doing well. She's going through multiple boyfriends, she's got kids, and she's got plenty of shows in Vegas. Spears is still doing well! In a parallel universe, Spears lives in a trailer park 45 minutes outside of Knoxville, TN. She married a man named Bert. Spears though however, got caught this week with marijuana charges and will be in the county jail for two days. 7. Lindsay Lohan Lindsay Lohan has been known in recent years to be in and out of rehab, an alcoholic, and a drug addict. She's gone in a downward spiral and is trying to regain the remaining happiness in her life. However luckily in a parallel universe, Lohan is living a typical happy life on the east coast. She lives in a little cottage off the beach. She can wear flip flops everyday and even though she doesn't necessarily have the bikini body like she did as a teenager, she is comfortable in her own skin. And on occasion she'll have a cigarette. 8. Paris Hilton Ohhhh Paris. The original reality star phenomenon is famous for being famous. She doesn't have a talent but she does have a lot of money. In a parallel universe, Paris Hilton is a yuppie trophy wife. Her days of beauty and glamour never necessarily happened, she was just trying to be good enough for her well-off husband. She's still carrying around her yippie dog but instead of a Beverly Hills Mansion, she's got an average beach home in Ft. Lauderdale. Wooden walls give that nautical vibe. 9. Rihanna She seems to always be pushing the envelope and doesn't care if she's seen naked or not. She knows she's a sex symbol even though it's not her goal. Rihanna has award after award given to her and the radio keeps playing her songs. However, in a parallel universe, Rihanna is a realtor in Atlanta, Georgia. When she moved to the United States, she realized Atlanta to be an affordable, cultural, and fulfilling city. It also was home to a strong christian community and she felt very welcomed. And with big homes going for a cheap price in Atlanta suburbs, she has a comfortably steady income. The best part? She'll also be celebrating her 22nd anniversary with her husband this month. 10. Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus is on quite a change of heart in our world. She's trying to change the world in positive ways by creating an LGBT foundation and embracing her sexuality. She's got a new look, provocative music videos, and plenty of cash. But in a parallel universe Miley lives in Texas never able to get out of the lone star state to get to Nashville. She's already finished with high school and has never heard of a Disney show called "Hannah Montana". Her dream was to be a singer but with her father losing his job, it's not realistic.
