Calbuco volcano near the Chilean town of Puerto Montt proved Mother Earth still has surprises: The 6,500-foot peak hasn’t erupted in more than 40 years and scientists weren’t expecting this week to be any different.
But yesterday — bam! Two major eruptions led to evacuations of thousands of people, an ash plume that rose seven miles in the sky, and this spectacular time lapse video by Rodrigo Barrera.
