This is one of those movie-turned-books that I never really took the time to watch the movie version of, but I finally did (Book vs. Movie card on the way next time!!), and I'm suddenly reminded of all the things I want to do and everything I want to be.
So remember these three lessons from Eat, Pray, Love. (And no, the lessons aren't to Eat Pray and Love lol!!)
Il dolce far niente
In Italian means “the sweetness of doing nothing.”
Elizabeth Gilberts (the author of the book) was onto something when she said this:
“Americans have an inability to relax into sheer pleasure.Ours is an entertainment seeking-nation, but not necessarily a pleasure-seeking one….This is the cause of that great sad American stereotype- the overstressed executive who goes on vacation, but who cannot relax.”
We have to remember to learn how to do nothing. How to enjoy these sweet moments. How to revel in not having anything planned, or simply being open to whatever is thrown our way. We need to let go!!! Remember to make time for nothing, and make time for yourself. Don't just live to work hard, but work hard so that you can live a beautiful, fun life. Enjoy it for you.
Fear leads you to run away from all the great possibilities of your life.
When you're afraid, you become unhappy. When you aren't willing to try to be yourself, things get hard!! Gilberts quoted a friend who stated that “all the sorrow and trouble of this world is caused by unhappy people.” The only person who really has control over how you feel is yourself, so don't let yourself be afraid, and remember that there's always more time.
“At some point, you gotta let go, and sit still, and allow contentment to come to you.”
Lastly, Remember to Forgive Yourself
Don't swim forever in your oceans of regret.
It's natural you're going to find yourself off balance and to blame for your sadness many times in life. As Ketut says, “Sometimes losing balance for love is part of living balance in life.” So let it go. Remember that it happened for a reason, and have faith that you'll be able to restore that balance again soon!
