From the bakers at Sugar Ruffles, comes this extraordinary gray cake. Although the color isn't my first, second or close third choice, I had to do a double-take because it was such an unexpected (and bold) move to go gray for a wedding cake.
I point this out to everyone because even though it's gray, I think it works and I want to tell you why.
Coral is huge this season. Marsala is the color of the year, which will be making the rounds also. But what goes exceedingly well with these and other colors? YOU GOT IT! GRAY!!! So while brides are over-saturating their weddings with color, think about toning it down with gray. The stunning neutral goes with just about everything.
Here you can see the cake pedestal is on a lace white doily. This keeps it feminine and brings in some white to the palette. The base tier is encased in delicate white sugar petals, as the top two gray tiers of rolled fondant are separated by a large sugar paste floral medallion. Would you ever consider gray as a color partner for your wedding?
