t's been a long time coming, but the cast for the latest entry into tvN's Answer Me series, Answer Me 1988, has finally confirmed its cast, with Girl's Day's Hyeri filling the role of female lead and Tomorrow's Cantabile's Go Kyung Pyo and Park Bo Gum stepping in as her leading men.
Hyeri's casting isn't much of a surprise as she's been in talks for the role for over a month, though there was some recent speculation that Han Groo might take the part instead. Some of the uncertainty was fueled by netizen comments criticizing Hyeri's acting abilities in Detectives of Seonam Girls' High School and Hyde, Jekyll, and I. What do you think? Is she ready to try a leading role?
While we'll have to wait and see how Hyeri interacts with her leading men, we already know that the guys work well together! Go Kyung Pyo and Park Bo Gum have worked together in three productions so far: Tomorrow's Cantabile, Roaring Currents, and Chinatown. While the producer of the series has announced that we won't be playing "Who's the husband?" this time around (Thank goodness because Answer Me 1994 just about killed me!), it's still pretty likely that these three will be forming a K-drama love triangle.
That's great news to me because after his winning turns in Flower Boy Next Door and Tomorrow's Cantabile, it's about time Go Kyung Pyo was more than just a side character! In fact, I was just wondering when he would get his chance when he popped up unexpectedly in the first episode of Jeju Island Gatsby (aka Warm and Cozy). After slaying so many hearts in Tomorrow's Cantabile, it's also no wonder that Park Bo Gum snagged a leadng part. Who do you think makes a better match for Hyeri?
Also joining the cast are Ryu Hye Young, Ryu Joon Yeol, Ahn Jae Hong, Lee Jong Hwi, Choi Sung Won, Answer Me 1994 actor Kim Sung Kyun, and perennial Answer Me series parents Sung Dong Il and Lee Il Hwa. Sadly, it looks like D.O and Irene aren't part of the cast, even though they also auditioned for the series.
