OMG! Can you believe this zany weather?! Us Chicagoans are bracing for historic winter weather, which started yesterday and are expecting the grizzly forecast to continue into and through Memorial Day! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can't be real!
In an effort to find a silver lining in all this, I suppose this means I can avoid horrendous lines at Jewel. I won't go near Costco this week! But I will go to Michael's...and so should you...to put this cute Memorial Day gift parfait together. All you need to get from Michael's (or your favorite craft/hobby store), are glass mason jars and cute ribbon.
Vanilla Whipped Cream Berry Parfait
2 cups strawberries or raspberries
2 cups blueberries
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of salt
Beat cream until soft, adding sugar, extract, and salt. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. In a short mason jar, layer 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup vanilla whipped cream, and 1/2 cup blueberries. Repeat in each jar.
You can affix the ribbon using a glue gun if you want it secured. You can use a solid or striped or star patterned ribbon if you choose. These are cute to give to friends and family.
Yeah, Chicago is under a cloud of sadness. 40's and windy. Supposedly, it's going to reach into the 70s tomorrow. Let's hope! I am glad the card inspired you @danidee!
You just inspired me so hard. I saw a berry trifle at my favorite dessert spot yesterday, but (REGRETTABLY!) didn't end up getting it. Maybe I could mix this recipe up with a little bit of a trifle-inspired modification for Memorial Day. Hmmm.
Historic winter weather? In May?
Sweet of you to say @danidee. hope yours is well too!
Damn, that sounds like a whole lot of weather in a very little time. Let's hope your Memorial Day weekend is a sunny one!
