Oil Spill on California Coast Still Growing
When the new first came out, about 21,000 gallons of oil were expected to have been leaked, which is pretty small in comparison to what oil spills are. One oil tankard carries more than that. But now AP is reporting it might be as much as 105,000 gallons, or even more.
But it really doesnt matter how much leaks and Im tired of people complaining about that. The leak itself is a big enough problem thats going to have big effects on the local ecology. Even relatively small spills can have drastic ecological impacts.
Not only that, but what about the constant leaking thats already happening (and rarely talked about) in California? Old wells are capped and vacant, but LEAK CONSTANTLY from natural and man-made fissures...“There’s an oil spill every day off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, where oil is seeping naturally from cracks in the seafloor and abandoned sea wells into the ocean,” - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
We've got to stop thinking that these "little incidences" aren't going to add up to something bigger. Just because they're not as bad as BP Deep Horizon was, that doesn't mean they won't have a long lasting, damaging effect on our world. That's nonsense!

My friends went to the beach today (I live in San Diego, about 300 miles south of the spill) and found hundreds of dead jellyfish. Its definitely not small anymore :/
