Feeling a bit blue today? Rather than let your mood get the best of you, follow some of these steps to try to have a better day! Even if it won't be a perfect day, you'll feel a bit better and not have a bad day hanging over your head when you wake up the next morning!
1. Try Coloring!
Have you heard about how coloring can help relieve your stress? Focusing on filling in these little spots can be a great distraction, and you'll feel great about finishing! You can get "adult coloring books" which are focus on stress relief, like this one above!
2. Make a "Done" List
Making a list of everything you've 'done' when you're feeling overwhelmed by what is left 'to do' can make you feel much better about your day. Just think of all the things you've accomplished! And then, when you complete something (no matter how simple, like brushing your teeth!) you can add it to the list!
3. Play with a Pet, or, Volunteer at a Shelter!
Does playing with your puppy or other pet improve your mood? Spend some time walking them, or just cuddling to improve your mood. If you dont' have a pet, call up a local shelter (or, research one ahead of time so you're already know there!) and go volunteer with the dogs or other animals there.
4. Create a "happy days" playlist!
Before you have a bad day, put together a "happy days" playlist that is sure to improve your mood! Put on those songs that you can't help but rock out to, or that make you laugh. Then, when you're having a bad day, you'll be ready to say "NO" to a bad mood and be happy in no time.
5. Make a "Good Day" List of Things to Do
If you do this in advance, you'll be ready to take down ANY bad mood! Here's what to do: make a list of things you want to do, or things that always improve your mood. Then, when a bad day comes, you'll be armed and ready to go!
6. Write Down Your Negative Thoughts
Sometimes, you just need to get it out. Write it down and let it go! You might be upset while writing it, but you'll feel better having got the words out of you.
7. Drive Around!
I love driving when I'm in a mood. Crank up the radio and listen to my current favorite playlist, hop on the interstate and just go. Nowhere to be, leave my problems back where they found me, and physically distance myself from whatever is stressing me so I can get some perspective.
8. Make Something Delicious
Sometimes, it can be relaxing to get your hands dirty and cook something delicious! Then, you can enjoy whatever your hard labor pulled together. It's cathartic--try it!
9. Pamper Yourself
How do you like to be pampered? By watching sad movies and painting your nails? By doing an "at-home" spa with an exfoliating mask and long bath. Just relax and make your body feel great--then you'll be on the way to feeling great, too.
10. Bury Yourself in a Book
Just read! Find a world you'd feel a little happier in for a few hours, and read, read, read!
11. Talk to Somebody :)
Just talking to someone can totally improve your mood!
