When people think of women in comedy, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler likely come to mind, but in the past year, several other women have made names for themselves in the industry. While issues like beauty standards and gender bias still exist in the world of comedy, the increased representation of women is a step in the right direction. The 2014-2015 TV year was a good one for several funny females. Amy Schumer's sketch comedy show recently gained popularity for its sarcastic portrayal of sensitive topics.
Mindy Kaling's show, while cancelled by Fox, has found a new home on Hulu, proving that fans are not ready to see it go. Broad City's Abbi and Ilana are not only starring in the Comedy Central show, but executive producing it. The pair's comedic genius has led to positive feedback and increased popularity for the show's more realistic portrayal of young female friendships.
If the past year is any indication, funny women have a lot to say and they're here to stay. The future of comedy television definitely includes women. What other women in comedy should we recognize? Which funny females should we be on the look out for in the next year?

I just started watching Broad City recently, and it's so funny. I love that there's more female comedians these days. I feel like comedy is getting a whole new voice thanks to them.
