If you're pressed for time, smoothies are an excellent alternative to a sit-down breakfast if you want to kickstart your morning feeling energized and rejuvenated. By consuming all the necessary nutrients in this smoothie, you not only feel full, but you feel like you haven't cheated early in the morning by intaking large amounts of refined or processed sugars from a breakfast sandwich, bagel, or doughnut.

Ingredients:

Handful of blackberries
Handful of blueberries
Half of a Banana (cut up)
1 Tsp. Flax Seed
1 Tsp. Chia Seeds
1/4 Cup Almond Milk
Splash of Coconut Water

Blend:

Place all ingredients into a Magic Bullet, Vitamix, or other type of blender and mix until it forms the consistency you desire. I have found that blending for 15 seconds is the perfect amount of time for this particular smoothie. If you wish to have it thicker, add more fruit or ice, and skip the coconut water. If you like it thinner, add more almond milk. Lastly, I garnished with blueberries, mint leaf, and granola; however, you're more than welcome to substitute these items.

I love using flax seeds in smoothies! Whole Foods actually has a flax and chia seed mix that would be perfect for this!

I'm kind of tempted to turn this into a chia pudding by upping the amount of chia seeds a bit and leaving it in my fridge for a few hours to set. This sounds so yummy!
