Five People That Should Be Performing At AfroPunk
The now world renowned AfroPunk festival just rocked Paris and announced they are on their way to Brooklyn on August 22nd and 23rd. While the lineup holds some awesome names (Lenny Kravitz, Danny Brown, Grace Jones) the list is missing a couple people we would love to see in NYC. Below is a list of five acts left off the NYC AfroPunk lineup that should be in attendance.
1-Zoe Kravitz & Lola Wollf
Word on the street is Zoe Kravitz and her band ROCKED the stage at Afropunk in Paris. It would make great sense to get her on the bill in NYC in front of 60,000 fans in America. Her dad is on the bill as well, which would make a great experience for fans of both family members.
2 - Jaden & Willow Smith
Jaden and Willow are at the forefront of the music scene for the next generation. I went to BC fest in DC and they gave an amazing set there. These two accompanied by a live band in NYC would shake the stage.
3- The Bots
The Bots have done a great job honing their sound this year, which is a mesh of punk, blues and grunge. From what I know, the L.A. based duo hasn’t played in NYC since CMJ last year, so this play is overdue for sure.
4- Kids These Days
One can dream right? This is probably the least likely of all additions due to the fact that the group is disbanded, but these guys made some amazing music. The SMASHED Coachella at one of their last live sets. I would love to see them perform “Don’t Harsh My Mellow” live in front of 60,000.
5- Toro Y Moi
The leader of the chillwave movement would be the perfect addition to the AfroPunk bill. He also has an album on the way, so this would be a great chance for him to showcase some new music in front of a huge audience.

@purplechick I think Toro did AfroPunk Paris, but I don't know why Toro wasn't on the NYC lineup, just seems like a more natural fit

I saw Danny Brown live before and his set was so sick. He's definitely got his own style going on.

@beywatch I actually was at A$AP Rocky first big headline concert in NYC at Irving Plaza. The opening lineup was star studded and we probably wont catch them all in a room that size again. It was G-Eazy, Flatbush Zombies and Danny Brown. During Rocky set, he bought out Schoolboy Q, Juicy J and Waka. Unreal.

Those are always the best shows - the ones right before you know they're about to blow up when you find yourself in a tiny space with a whole lot of talent in front of you. Not everyone gets that kind of opportunity!
