Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's It's Kind of a Funny Story is the easily one of the best contemporary coming-of-age movies to come out in the past couple of years.
It follows Craig (played by Keir Gilchrist) and his stay at a mental health facility in New York. The performances across the board are nothing short of spectacular. Even though it seems like Zach Galifinakis is reprising his role as the "goofy adult who doesn't have it all together", there are moments in the film where his acting gets real dramatic and he doesn't miss a beat.

The book was leaps and bounds better. I read it a long time before the movie, and so I was excited to see it. I was ultimately let down by the adaptation, though I can see how it is a good film for those who never read the book.
@christianmordi, Totally! Sucks that it isn't on Netflix anymore, I guess we're both going to pick this one up.
Loved this movie. Zoe Kravitz also has a role in this one. This used to be on Netflix, I have to get it on DVD for my personal collection
@VinMcCarthy While I could enjoy this flick on it's own, I had read the book before as well and just didn't like it as much....Zach Galifinakis was good but unnecessary and there were parts o the story I really liked just gone.
@beywatch well for one, part of the girl's deal is that she cut her face up to cope with her sexual abuse- to appear "less pretty". And Craig has much more depth, in terms of his depression and the way he starts approaching art as an outlet. Also, there's no easy character to point to that makes zach galifinakis' presence make sense.
