The Internet is amazing. For those who are new to the collective, The Internet is a soul band consisting of former Odd Future members Syd the Kyd and Matt Martians, as well as Jameel Bruner, Patrick Paige, Christopher A. Smith, and Steve Lacy.
The Band is two albums in and has show amazing growth on each project. Purple Naked Ladies displayed more of a playful side from the collective. Some of the hits from that album were "Cocaine" and "Fastlane.”
The Second album introduced a much more mature sound from the collective. The band shared the new music nationwide while backing Mac Miller in Europe in promotion of his second album Watching Movies with the Sound Off.
Today the band is back to announce their third studio album Ego Death. The album is set for release on June 30th, and isco-produced by Grammy winning producer Jimmy Douglass and featuring Kaytranada, Vic Mensa, Tyler, the Creator and more.
During an interview with FADER, Syd spoke on her growth and new approach with this album. "With the last album, I kind of lost touch with my youth," Syd explains. "Just jumping up and down at shows and acting like a little kid. I missed connecting with my age group, so with this album I wanted to connect with our peers more."
With Jazz funk collectives emerging by the day, The Internet continues to stay and their own lane and set the tone for what is cool within their genre of music. It’s amazing to see kids so young create music with such depth.
After June 30th everyone will have a similar thought run through their head after hearing the album: The Internet is the best young jazz/funk group in music.
