Southpaw comes out next month, July 24th, to be exact and I can't be any more excited for this than I already am.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) and written by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield) Southpaw is about a boxer, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who struggles with his personal and professional life -- at least, that's what it looks like.
Even though the film seems pretty cliche in terms of narrative, I've become quite fond of Sutter's writing after seven seasons of the aforementioned show, Sons of Anarchy. And even though Fuqua is more "miss than hit" at times, the trailer doesn't show it.
And... I'm always looking for an excuse to watch Jake Gyllenhaal in anything, so I'll probably be pleased no matter how this movie turns out.
