Jay Electronica first gained significant attention through Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), made available on a MySpace page in 2007. The project was fifteen continuous minutes of music, without drums, built from Jon Brion's soundtrack to the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In July 2011, Jay Electronica posted via his Twitter that his debut album, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), was complete and ready to go. Five years later, we have not received a debut album from Jay Electronica. Should we still be excited to hear his upcoming album?
Electronica has the music world at his fingertips. For starters, he is a member of his Roc Nation imprint, which boasts such acts as J. Cole, and Willow Smith, Big Sean and more. The imprint has done a great job in regards to putting their artists in position to grow into household names. Despite being under the Roc Nation imprint, Elect has done very little to push out new music via his incredible resources.
Fans of Jay Electronica have been malnourished due the artist's lack of desire to deliver new music in a timely manner to fans. His last two big releases, Exhibit A & C saw great success, but were released in 2009.
For now, Electronica keeps his fans at bay by making sporadic appearances on other peoples’ projects. One must question, how much music does Electronica have in his music vault? How many incredible collaborations are growing dust? When this music in released, will it still be widely accepted, or will the sound be dated due to how long it has sat since it’s creation? It may be time for fans to move on, and accept the fact we may never get a full length Jay Electronica album.
No love for What the Fuck is a Jay Electronica? Wasn't great, and can't say he's someone I really watch out for, but I turn it on every once in a while
I feel. WTFiaJE isn't really much to hold on to so tightly, anyway - just a few solid tracks mixed into nonsense.
@jeff4122 I have been a fan of Jay Elect since the days of Damon Dash and DD172, but I have to call a spade a spade. It seems as if he has no desire to drop a full length tape for fans, or regular singles for that matter. May be best for us to move on until he gets this in order.
