This is the kind of story that gets me so angry I can't write reasonable thoughts about it. Kalief was jailed wrongly (without trail, might I add) for 3 years. He spent much of that time in solitary confinement. He shouldn't have been there.
Jennifer Gonnerman, who wrote a piece for The New Yorker about Kalief's case, wrote this piece about Kalief yesterday, which gives us a look at how his time in jail led to his death from suicide.
Something has got to change. Riker's is out of control. Maybe I'll right something a little more cohesive about this when I'm less angry, but this is too much.
