When NBC canceled the show Smash I was upset. Really upset. And so were the other thousands of fans. But like any good fan, we took to the internet and happened to raise more than $300,000 on Kickstarter for a reunion concert.
The concert reunited the two fabulous “bombshells” Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee that performed all of the best songs from the show. And the stars were stunning. All the benefits were given to the Actors Fund.
The movie “Smash,” that centers around the musical production of a Marilyn Monroe show was brilliantly produced. It was a behind the scenes look at a show. A show within a show that every broadway musical lover gushed over.
The concert strung together all of the hits from the movie, which happened to be already existing biographical texts of Marilyn Monroe herself, pieced together by music magicians Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (who also did the music for Hairspray).
This one-night-only event at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater was a “Smash” hit, and fans (like myself) were happy that their favorite show finally got a Standing-O.
