Building The Ultimate Vegan Michelada, A Mexican Beer Cocktail
Last month, I had the pleasure of traveling to Coahuila, Mexico for a wedding, where I had the most amazing time. I think - especially to us Southern Californians - Mexico has a pretty poor traveling reputation, which makes it a bit underrated as far as destinations go.
While local tap water still is bad to drink, for example, most resort dining, restaurants, and hotel kitchens use filtered water for every step of preparation. As for crime, many tourist-heavy parts of the country are well-patrolled, making shopping, heading to the beach, and other attractions much safer than you'd think.
One of my favorite parts of being in Mexico is, of course, the food. If you check out HappyCow's list of vegan/vegetarian Mexican restaurants, you'll find that they're surprisingly quite abundant! During my trip, I fell in love with street tacos, pan dulce, and Micheladas.
The Michelada, a beer-based cocktail, is salty, spicy, and refreshing, making it the perfect accompaniment to a regional plate of food. Dress up your Corona, Pacifico, or Modelo in an authentically Mexican way - veganized just for Vingle.
