Basil is back on the scene as the new trendy herb because its unique taste is so delicious. You might be used to it just adding dimension to your pasta or pizza, but what about salads? ice creams? and most importantly your cocktails?
Strawberry Basil has been a popular combination for a long time, but here are some new recipes I stumbled upon that mix up the traditional basil cocktails and make them perfect for summer.
Did I also mention basil is good for your health? YES!

Raspberry Lime Basil Gin Cocktail

If you want something light, fresh, and gin based with no added sugary syrups, you've just found your drink (courtesy of TastyEverAfter)
This is all you need:
6 whole fresh raspberries
1 Tb fresh basil leaves, chiffonade (cut into thin ribbons)
2 ounces gin
1 ounces sparkling water or club soda, lime flavored or plain
1 Tb fresh lime juice
½ cup ice
Optional garnish: lime slices and whole fresh basil leaves

Strawberry Basil Mojito

This recipe is basically Delicious, ripe summer fruit, fragrant herb infused simple syrup, and booze. Sounds disgusting, right?
This is all you need:
2 oz White Rum
1 oz Basil Simple Syrup (recipe link below)
1/3 Cup Chopped Strawberries
Splash Fresh Lime Juice
4 oz Club Soda

Italian Mojitos

I love mojitos, I really do. This classic Italian mojito takes out the minty zing and adds the smooth taste of basil. Such a subtle change but it makes all the difference.
This is all you need:
1½ cups simple syrup
1 cup Vodka
Juice from 3 limes
1 cup club soda, chilled

Strawberry Basil Margaritas

Delicious, yes, but also the perfect shortcut for parties because you can make it the night before and leave it in the fridge for the flavors to mingle until the next day.
This is all you need:
1 cup fresh strawberries, mashed 8 limes, freshly squeezed
6 oz tequila ⅓ cup mashed sea salt
Simple Syrup
½ cup fresh basil leaves, more for garnishing

Cucumber Basil Bloody Marys

This is my favorite bloody mary recipe, ever. It's full of fresh basil, cucumber, and Serrano chiles—making it both incredibly refreshing, and spicy-savory, at the same time.
This is all you need:
2 oz. Hangar 1 Straight Vodka
2 oz. tomato juice
Cucumber soda (or club soda)
Lime wedges
Mini cucumbers, quartered lengthwise
Fresh basil
Kosher salt + sweet paprika + celery salt to rim glasses

Grapefruit Lemongrass and Basil Cocktail

The flavors found in Thai food are some of my favorite, and I finally found a cocktail that combines it all perfectly without being overwhelming.
This is all you need:
1 handful of fresh Thai basil
1 stalk of lemongrass
1/5 ounce of rum
1/2 grapefruit, juiced
3 ounces of water
Dash of bitters
3 tablespoons of brown sugar

Strawberry, Lime, and Basil Smash

You're getting a ton of vitamins, flavor, and color out of this cocktail and best of all, it's only 92 calories per serving!
This is all you need:
8 strawberries, hulled & halved
5 big fresh basil leaves
1/8 fresh lime, wedged
1-1/2 cups tonic water
1 tablespoon simple syrup, agave, coconut palm sugar or stevia (add more if needed)

That variation of a bloody mary looks so delicious. I feel like it's become trendy to keep building and building on bloody marys, but this one really simplifies it and gives it a nice twist.
I'm pretty obsessed with anything grapefruit so sign me up for that Thai cocktail!
