Seeds have a high fat content, so they're prone to soaking up pesticides, similar to a sponge sitting on your kitchen counter. I have compiled a list of 6 organic seeds that will guarantee you with endless health benefits.
Seed #1: Sunflower
Whether you're attending a baseball game, nibbling on them as a substitute for chewing tobacco, or simply enjoying the salty sensation they provide, sunflower seeds contain high levels of vitamin E which neutralizes free radicals. Selerium induces DNA repair. Magnesium builds strong bones and helps lower blood pressure (in case your boss/spouse/children are driving you nuts), decreases muscle tension (from all those late night workouts you're doing on a consistent basis, right?), migraine headaches (again from your boss/spouse/children), soreness and fatigue.
Seed #2: Hemp
A complete protein. They contain the essential fatty acids such as Omega-6 and Omega-3, and are a good source of soluble and insoluble fiber. Consuming hemp seeds will also provide you with vitamins A, B1, B2, D and E. I love sprinkling some on top of my favorite strawberry-banana smoothie.
Seed #3: Pumpkin
High in protein, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, B vitamins, vitamin K, vitamin E and basically every other vitamin/mineral known to man (not really, but pretty close). Pumpkin seeds protect you against Osteoporosis. I has been given the title of the most alkaline-forming seed and helps fight chronic disease like a boss.
Seed #4: Flax
Attention all workaholics! This seed has been known to lower blood pressure. Omega-3s reduce inflammation. ALA promotes bone health. Fiber and lignans (which are thought to have a role in breast cancer prevention) help promote digestive health. Also, if you're having trouble staying "regular," try mixing a small spoonful of flax seed into your oatmeal, morning smoothie, or bowl of cereal. Note: You might want to be near a bathroom after you're done with breakfast.
Seed #5: Chia
You don't frequently hear about people having a favorite seed, but if I were to designate a certain seed as my favorite, it would definitely be the chia seed. It's loaded with calcium and phosphorous, which promotes bone health and contains levels of fiber for digestive health. Omega-3s reduce inflammation. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. It's also high in protein and regulates insulin levels. What can't this seed do?
Seed #6: Sesame
Sesame seeds contain calcium and phosphorous, which again promote bone health. Antioxidants and manganese neutralize free radicals. Zinc prevents osteoporosis. Eases stress (next time you're on a sushi date, just ask for extra sesame seeds) and reduces hypertension.
