Jhene Aiko is one of the more authentic crossover singers intertwined in the rap community at the moment. Her love for Tupac is well documented and embedded in her story as a rising artist. Every year she does something new in honor of Tupac’s birthday. Aiko shared the origin of the tradition during an interview with MTV. “I feel like I have to give his legacy some type of present. It started off, one time I did a video shoot where they spread his ashes. And it was a coincidence that I was there that day, we were all like, “Wait a minute, this is Tupac’s birthday and we’re here on the same beach.’ So after that, it’s been several years since then and every year I want to do something.”
This year the Cali native released a trio of new photos in which she recreates famous pictures of the rapper—including the cover of his epic double-album, All Eyez On Me. Aiko didn’t stop there, as she blessed us with footage of a live cover of her performing her favorite Tupac track “Keep Ya Head Up.”
Aiko always breathes new life into the story of Tupac with her creations. You guys catch any other cool dedications to Tupac on his birthday?
