As far as I can find, this is the only time Al Green covered The Beatles. And that's a damn shame.
At first, it almost seems like he's joking around too much to even sing a song - "shut up, Al Green," someone says in the background. But then, Green so gracefully and effortlessly slips into this cover of "I Want to Hold Your Hand". It's everything you want and expect from an Al Green song: there's the choppy vocal piece ("I GOTTA!"), the horns, you know. It's pretty much perfect.
It's a soul kind of day, with Al Green and Sam Cooke (see here) leading the charge.
Al Green should just cover everything, all the time.
