EW news has just reported that the final chapter of Hawkeye will be released on July 15th. The above is an exclusive look at one of the first pages. This issue will close the door on the Clint Barton saga as told by Matt Fraction and David Aja.
I'm both relieved to see the end and sad to see this go. The timing makes sense; Marvel is resetting their timeline and it didn't seem like Hawkeye is going to be a major player in their relaunch. It's good to know we'll be getting some closure (last we saw, Clint was greiving the death of his brother and Kate Bishop was in California). But I really love the Fraction take on the character. In this arc, Clint has been sarcastic and depressed and weird and at times painfully human.
"Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, became the greatest sharpshooter known to man. He then joined the Avengers. This is what he does when he’s not being an Avenger." -Hawkeye 1
Who hasn't had days like that? Not the part about bring shot at- I really hope you haven't had days like that. I mean the "no good news, everything sucks". In addition to the relateable depiction of the character, I love the art. It's deceptively simple- not to mention kind of hilarious.
Clint is kind of a dummy, but it's usually in a charming way. He frequently runs intonproblems with his coffee and his pants, just like we all do. It doesn't mean he's not a hero. His partnership with Kate Bishop (the *other* Hawkeye) is one of the things that really made this comic great. This run has been one if Marvel's most popular comics. It's kind of surprising- he's usually one of the least popular members of the trams he's been on, not to mention he has no powers to speak of and he's fighting with "a stick and a string from the Paleolithic era". It goes to show was good writing can do.
I'm gonna miss this goofball, with his weird obsession with arrows and his embarrassing incompetence. It's been real, bro.
