It's become a part of our daily routine and honestly, you could never see yourself without a face full of makeup -- at least that's what you think.

You take your makeup removal wipe at night and wipe off the face full of makeup you spent an hour perfecting earlier that day. Staring in the mirror, you can't help but question who that woman is standing on the other side of the mirror. You're so used to wearing a full face day after day, you honestly forgot what you look like without a hint of makeup. Before make up, who were you? Are you wearing the makeup or is the makeup wearing you? Those are definitely rhetorical questions, but ladies -- makeup is an accessory not a necessity. Learn the difference.
I didn't personally start wearing makeup until my sophomore year of college. Before then, all I really knew was lip gloss. Thanks to my roommate in college, make up became my life within a small amount of time. Yeah, you read that correctly -- my life. Sadly, I became addicted to a mask that I felt made me more attractive, at least that's how I felt. It took me awhile to disconnect from the sick habit I had of covering up my entire face daily. Even something as simple as running to the store, I had to throw a little something on. It was a sickness and I needed treatment quick.
Many women wear makeup for several different reasons, whether it be for beauty purposes or self-esteem issues -- I was stuck somewhere in the middle. I knew I was beautiful, but that foundation and concealer made me feel even more beautiful. But what was I really hiding from? I eventually disconnected myself from the idea that makeup was a necessity and I learned to use it as an accessory instead. Store runs and early morning classes weren't makeup worthy. I didn't need it and ladies, neither do you.
We see celebrities covered in full faces constantly, but we've also seen our fair share of celebrities bare it all. So, who's to say that we can't do the same? Ladies, it's okay to strip down from your makeup. You will still be beautiful without it. By the way, how would you know what true beauty is if you've never seen your true self without the makeup? Yes, makeup works wonders and is extremely fun, just don't forget while you're having fun that you're human and at the end of the day the makeup will have to come off and you'll have to reveal your true self. When you look in that mirror at night before you lay down, does that person look familiar? If not, re-evaluate your relationship with makeup and create a relationship with yourself. When the make up is gone and wiped off, all that's left is you. We all have flaws. It's up to you to embrace them.

If the lyrics from Mulan didn't resonate with you then, they probably will now:

"Look at me You may think you see Who I really am But you'll never know me Every day It's as if I play a part Now I see If I wear a mask I can fool the world But I cannot fool my heart Who is that girl I see Staring straight back at me? When will my reflection show Who I am inside?"
