We officially have our next Spider-Man! reports:
“Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world," Sony Executive Amy Pascal told With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” In February of this year, Marvel and Sony Pictures announced that they had reached an agreement to work together on the cinematic future of Spider-Man. As part of the deal, the new Spider-Man is expected to debut in Captain America: Civil War, before starring in a Jon Watts-directed solo Spider-Man movie to be released on July 28, 2017."
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield played the role in previius films, before Sony and Marvel came to this agreement. Tom Holland is most known for his previous role as Billy Elliott. Casting someone relatively unknown is not new for the MCU, amd it means the actor won't be be seen by audiences as having a lot of baggage or preconcieved notions from previous roles. The actor is 19, so they have some flexability as to whether they play him younger. With Civil War currently in production, how long do you think it will be before we start seeing promotional footage of him in the suit?

@alliebrooks I kind of agree. I feel like if they're going to keep rebooting the same character over and over, they need to do something new with it. There's only so many times I want to hear the same origin story. @esha were you expecting someone else? I had never heard of him before.
I am interested to see where they take it @esha, some versions of the character focused on him being a regular kid, which is what made him so beloved. Taking that angle- using him as an Everyman that struggles with his responsibilities- might help the character fit in to the ensemble better. It probably won't work as well for the solo movies though.
@shannonl5 yeah they should just keep it going because the amazing spiderman movies were great! but from what I've read they're not going to retell the origin story all over again so I guess we'll see how it is lol
I've heard that too @alliebrooks so maybe it's going to be a little different this time around. It is confusing to have to deal with a new actor every few years though.
@shannonl5 yes exactly
