Oatmeal is probably one of my favorite things to eat while over-nighting if I'm bringing a gas grill to heat water up, but I've always just used the pre-packaged packets because it seemed...easier?
Thinking about it now, though, I could have been customizing my oatmeal all this time! Dang! Well, I'm going to start using these for both hiking and probably work as well, because I don't think a good afternoon snack could be much easier than this.

Here's how to do it!

(awesome idea by outdoorblueprint!!)

First, add all your base ingredients:

1/2 cup Old Fashioned Oats
2 tsp Dehydrated Milk
2 tsp Maple Sugar (or other sweetener)
1 tsp Chia Seeds
1 tsp Flax Seeds
2 tsp Oat Bran
1/8 tsp Cinnamon
Pinch of Salt

Then customize it up with any of the following:

- dried fruit
- nuts
- other sweeteners
- nutritional powders
Ta-da! When you're reading to eat it, just add the normal amount of hot water, let it soak, absorb, and you're good to go.
Not sure what to add? Don't worry! Outdoorblueprint also put a lot of really great nutritional info about potential ingredients over here, so check it out to see what you should add to meet your fitness needs.
Happy Hiking!!
@caricakes And it's not even hard! Hope it works for you. @danidee I'll have to keep an eye out for those, thanks!
Costco sells this brand called Coach's Oats that's really good if you're a steel cut oatmeal nerd like me. It'd work really well packaged up like this1
This is great! I used to eat the Quaker Oats instant packs but there is something in there that just doesn't sit right with me - even the plain packets! Making my own is probably my safest bet :)
