Fearing a loneliness
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
fearful tidings from a open-faced clock
I'm waiting and watching at the kitchen door
hoping I won't have to keep hiding no more
emotions are spent, my thoughts are all drivel
tired of keeping my head on a swivel
always hoping, looking over my shoulder
fighting fear feels like Sisyphus and the boulder
I had love for a minute, now she's gone away
I swear I tried my best to convince her to stay
She told me there was no emotion inside
I heard those words and the last light in me died
There's no justice in love, no peace and no reason
just passing fancies and the delights of the season
murder ain't legal, but heartbreak, that flies
no penalty for taking the joy from your eyes
I've gotten nothing left to give, that much is basic
all I can do now is turn to my fear, time to face it.
Your daily dose of music-inspired poetry comes from Lyric of the Day #18, which in turn comes from Elvis Costello's song "Watching the Detectives". Here's the lyric:

You think you're alone until you realize you're in it

Now fear is here to stay, love is here for a visit

They call it instant justice when it's past the legal limit
