Obviously sitting in front of a screen for hours on end is terrible for your eyes. No matter what cliffhanger the last episode of Grey's Anatomy left you with, you've got to give your eyes a break. There are a couple tips and tricks that will keep computer/phone screens from totally destroying your eyes.
1. The 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look up from the screen for at least 20 seconds and focus on a point that's 20 feet away. I promise in 20 seconds you won't miss any major plot points, unless you're watching Game of Thrones, then I'm sorry, someone's probably been murdered.
2. Adjust brightness: If your computer is a source of light in the room, you're doing it wrong. Make sure your screen's brightness matches your surroundings. This means that all of you watching a couple episodes of TV before bed probably need to turn that brightness down.
3. Monitor color temperature: Throughout the day, the lighting around you changes and your brain has gotten used to that. Then computers came around and didn't get the memo, leaving the color temperature of your displays the same throughout the day and destroying your eyes. That's where f.lux comes in. It's a free app that uses your location and time zone to automatically adjust the color temperature of your display, reducing eye strain immensely.
These quick tips will significantly reduce the eye strain that comes with staring at screens all day. Now you can feel a little bit better about the five House of Cards episodes you just watched in a row.
But seriously, the best thing to do is take a break from the screen - go outside, read a book, get some sleep. Your eyes and brain will thank you later.
@LauraFisher yeah I'm not sure if she's drooling but if she is, it's perfect
the picture on the first block kills me
@Gavriella she looks just like me when I watch TV and I'm 99% sure she's wearing a snuggie, so even more spot on.
