Want to cut down on sugar in your diet? This fruit-based smoothie bowl is your answer! When you crave sugar, your body is probably looking for the energy-packed simple carbohydrates in fruit. Instead of reaching for that candy bar (don't do it!! *slaps hand*), blend up a batch of this delicious, nourishing smoothie. It'll give you the dose of sweetness you need, but also essential vitamins and minerals, protein for long-lasting energy, and fiber to keep you fuller longer.
Enlighten Smoothie Bowl
Prep Time: 5 min. Difficulty: Easy. Makes 1-2 servings.
Recipe adapted from The Simple Veganista
1 1/2 cups berry mix or frozen fruit mix of choice
1 1/2 fresh banana (use the other half sliced on top)
2 tablespoons almond or natural peanut butter (or 1 scoop vegan protein powder, optional)
1/2 cup almond milk or coconut milk
3 - 4 ice cubes
Combine frozen fruit, banana, nut butter, almond milk, and ice cubes in the blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into serving bowl and top with whatever you like. You can go all out, or keep it simple. Then grab a spoon and enjoy!
Some optional toppings: granola, coconut, cacao nibs, natural nut butters, sliced banana, blueberries, strawberries, grapes, kiwi, goji berries, hemp hearts, chia seeds, pomegranate seeds, sliced almonds, pumpkin seeds
– If using frozen bananas, omit the ice cubes and add 1/4 cup of liquid (almond milk or just water). Add extra liquid as needed.
– Adding nuts and seeds as part of your toppings will add extra protein.
