You've been doing it daily (hopefully) for your entire life. It's considered the most crucial part of your skincare routine and practically comes second nature to you; however, no matter how simple this practice may seem, you may be doing it wrong. Try out these 7 easy steps the next time you wash your face and see how much it differs from your normal routine.
Wash your face with warm water and a mild cleanser (my favorite is Cetaphil or CeraVe) and then pat dry with a clean towel.
Apply toner and wait for it to dry. Note: Toner is extremely useful for those who have oily or combination skin.
Apply any topical medications (over the counter or prescribed) that is used specifically for acne treatment.
Apply eye cream or serum and let it dry completely. This will help prevent collagen damage.
Apply an all day, lightweight moisturizer. Note: Drying out your skin will actually cause it to produce more oil.
Apply sunscreen (yes, even in the Winter!) with SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Apply makeup primer or foundation and proceed with your makeup routine.
Other useful tips:
Change your pillowcases weekly.
Use a fresh towel daily to avoid contaminating your face with oils, bacteria, dirt and other build ups.
Any hair products with oil, silicones and plasticizers will clog your pores if they get on your skin.
Avoid your face when spritzing perfume or body spray.
