The Tallest Man on Earth is average height, and so, so good
Last week, I wrote about learning to play the guitar. Since then, I've started listening to some music with a bit of a different ear, looking for guitarists who inspire me in one way or another. I've identified a few already: Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and more. One, though stands out, even though I'll never in my wildest dreams be able to play like he does.
He is The Tallest Man on Earth. And he might be the most talented guitar player I'm aware of.
NPR hosted him for a Tiny Desk Concert back in 2009 when he was just getting his start, and his performance of a few songs from "Shallow Grave," his first album, changes lives and ends wars.
Seattle radio station KEXP got him to play a short set in 2012 and the same sort of quality is evident. This guy can play like nobody's business.
Not to be overshadowed by his crazy guitar playing is his poetic songwriting, which deserves a post of its own.
You're probably already familiar with The Tallest Man on Earth. But if you aren't, where have you been?
