Picture it: the beautiful Wyoming wilderness, a parched, hot summer, and no one around for miles. Your job: to keep watch for potential forest fires, high atop a mountain in your lookout point. Isolated from the world outside, your only connection is to your supervisor, whom you contact through your walkie-talkie.
If any of this is alluring to you, then Firewatch is a game you should look out for this year. Brought to us by new developer Campo Santo, a small development studio based in San Francisco.
The game was initially planned for release on Windows, IOS, and Linux, though has since expanded also to a PS3 console release.
Take a look at this years E3 trailer. In just a minute spot, the game shows off a lot; stunning environment, distinct and natural voice acting that builds a character, and some pretty deep tension, all very quickly.
You really feel the loneliness and isolation in just the trailer. Alone in your watchtower and cut off from the rest of your support, your walkie talkie is your only outlet. The tension of having someone out there doing something sinister is intriguing. I wonder whether they will incorporate a battery life into your walkie, for that extra layer of tension.
The game looks artistic and well crafted. It doesn't have a specific release date yet, though they are hoping for a 2015 release. Keep you eyes on it and pick it up when it drops!
