Yesterday I stopped by a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant that sold falafel in a pita for the low-low. I read the sign: fried chickpea patty. All I knew about chickpeas was that they're wholesome, and they make really fuckin' great hummus.
I've never had falafel before, so I decided to give it a try. After just a few bites, I felt very satisfied. Falafel is a fried ball or patty that's made with chickpeas. They can also include fava beans. It's a dish that's widely eaten in the Middle East. And oh-my-goodness they are so good!
To all of my meat-eaters: you know that incomplete feeling you get when you have a dish that excludes meat? Yeah, this wasn't the case with falafel. It had the right combinations of foods, that the food item felt very complete. Since chickpeas are packed with fiber, protein, and calories, it's going to give you what you need to feel full.
With an abundant amount of guac, curry, and hot sauce in my falafel -- I was on a vegetarian cloud.
