Classic Prohibition-Era Cocktail: The French 75
This cocktail gets its subtly violent name from WWI-era slang for a 75-mm field canon. The drink itself, a lemony cognac-laced twist on champagne, echoes some of that some oomph. Invented in 1915, it'd be right at home served at Prohibition or Flapper-themed parties!

The Classic French 75

3 oz. champagne
1 oz. cognac
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
3⁄4 oz. simple syrup
Lemon twist
Fill glass with ice; add champagne. Stir cognac, juice, and syrup in a dry shaker; pour over champagne. Garnish with lemon twist.
