The good ol’ days when the NBA was full of talented big men are long gone.
The pickings are slim in the NBA in regards to top tier centers. The drop off outside of the top five in the center position is unreal. It holds the biggest gap in talent within any position in the NBA. True traditional big men are a gem in the league right now. Due to his size, upside and unique skill set, DeAndre Jordan is the most valuable free agent this offseason.
Deandre Jordan is an unstoppable force on offense. He runs the floor great and has elite athleticism. Last year, he dunked the ball 252 times, (check the highlight clip above) which means he averaged three dunks a game. Throughout his career, he has been a super efficient player on offense shooting over 60% each season. He may lack a deep repertoire of post moves, but he makes up for it with a lot of effort on the offensive glass. Last year he averaged close to five offensive rebounds a game.
Jordan can change the landscape of a game on defense. His length and motor can sway the momentum of a game. He is equally effective in a fast pace or half court game. The dynamic big man averages a steal and two blocks per game.
Great teams win championships based on rebounding and defense. Very few in the league can take the game over in those realms by themselves. Deandre Jordan is one of those players. All NBA general managers need to be offer Jordan the max.
