Om nom nom!
Me and this baby monkey have something in common – we're both adorable. ^.^ Justtttt kidding. What we really share is – we both love bananas! But sometimes, my bananas get all spotty and brown before I get a chance to eat them. I hate throwing away food (it's such a waste of money!) so I am psyched about this food hack.
It's easy: just wrap the top of a bunch of bananas with cling wrap!
Why does this work?
This is what LifeHacker.com has to say:
Bananas, like many fruits, release ethylene gas naturally, which controls enzymatic browning and ripening of not just itself, but other fruits nearby. Much of that offgassing takes place at the stem—or the crown—of the banana. By wrapping the crown of a bunch, you slow down the ripening process a bit.
In fact, you can make bananas last even longer – up to a week longer, in fact! – by separating them and wrapping the individual stems in plastic wrap.
Give this a try, and see if it works for you! I think it's a genius idea. For more cool kitchen hacks, take look at my collection The Clever Chef: Kitchen Hacks. It'll help save you money and simplify your life.
