5 Anime Movies You are Incomplete Without
Who doesn't love a good action movie? Intense sequences of tense, gripping excitement, guided by plots that vary from paper-thin to overly complex. The thing is, real-life people and sets are limited in the scope of what they can really do. Sure, CGI can do a lot, but you are still imited by the audience's suspension of disbelief.

However, Anime doesn't have that problem. With animation, you can go balls-to-the-wall crazy and the audience will eat it up, because they are prepared, even expecting, it to be like that.

Here, I've put together a list of some awesome anime movies that you should go watch, like right now.

Redline

Set in a futuristic world, Redline is a movie that is focused around high-octane racing, specifically the "Redline" race, which happens once every five years. The event is always held at a surprise location that is not revealed until days in advance. This year, it turns out to be on Roboworld, a planet with an extreme militant government who seeks to stop the race from happening.

Something really awesome about this high-energy anime is that it took 7 years to make. Why is that? Well, it's because every single frame in the movie is hand drawn. No computer-generated images here, just pure anime goodness.

Summer Wars

Set on Earth in the current day or perhaps near future, the virtual world OZ is the center of e-commerce, social media, and online gaming. OZ is the hub of effectively everything, with things like government information and city planning keeping their information stored there. It is protected by the world most advanced security, but when a young man inadvertenly breaks the security cypher, he must scramble to fix the problem and save the day.

Summer Wars is a bright, cheerful action-packed anime. It has interesting contrasts between the traditional aspects of Japanese culture crossed with the ever-increasing focus on new technologies. The main character is adorable likable and the tension of the conflict has serious gravity.

Sword of the Stranger

A young boy and his dog have to escape hostile pursuit. In their attempt to get away, they encounter a peculiar swordsman, whose sword is bound inside of its sheath. The swordsman defends the young boy against attackers, and winds up inextricably attached to him. The two make for the boy's destination, and along the way they become embroiled in a conflict between nations that threatens both of their lives.

This movie is great because of its complex understanding of the relationship between the swordsman and his past, and the evils that people will commit in the pursuit of immortality. Plus the fighting scenes are perfectly crafted and grounded, where some other animes go for the shock value of over-the-top scenes

Afro Samurai: Resurrection

This made-for-tv movie follows hot on the heels of the successful short Afro Samurai series. Now the owner of the No. 1 headband, Afro is content to merely exist in peace, carving wooden figurines. However, this idleness is interrupted by Afro's childhood friend and his sister, who come to claim the headband as well as Afro's father's remains. Afro must then track down the No. 2 headband again to reclaim his father's remains and the No. 1 headband.

Where Sword of the Stranger is grounded and posesses a significant amount of gravity, Afro Samurai is known to be wildly over-the-top and action-packed. The swordfighting in the movie is simply awesome and the soundtrack, provided by RZA, is astounding. The visuals are crisp and the comedy/action anime is a must-watch.

Akira

Motorcycles, psychic powers, post-apocalyptic Tokyo.

This movie set the bar for all of Japanese Anime. If you haven't seen it, then you're doing it wrong.

Summer Wars is really beautiful, and Afro Samurai... gosh I haven't seen it in ages I have to rewatch it!
The amount of work that went into Redline is absolutely crazy! But the visuals in the movie justify 7 years of work. Thanks for this card! Will definitely have to check out the other movies sometime soon! ^_^
