For a while now, I've heard that there was going to be a Goosebumps movie coming out. I was skeptical and I didn't care. I assumed that they were going to take one of the many books and adapt the story.
But then the trailer came out and, man, I was wrong. They took all of the books and shoved them into one movie making it the best book-to-film adaptation I've ever seen (or not seen, it isn't out yet).
The reason that this trailer works so well is because it doesn't reveal how the Goosebumps book relate to the film until about half-way through. And the connection to the books is another reason why this trailer, and hopefully the movie, will be the best book-to-film adaptation.
Even though it isn't explicitly stated, Jack Black plays R.L Stine, the author of the Goosebumps books and the narrative of the movie revolves around his monsters coming alive in the real world. By revolving the movie around all of the books instead of singular one, it leaves options open for what can happen throughout the movie's plot. It's one of the most interesting takes on a book-to-film adaptation and that's what will (again, hopefully) make it the best adaptation we've seen to date.
Even though the CGI isn't that great, seeing a lot of the old monsters from the Goosebumps books I read as a young, small person got me excited to bring some of my younger (and smaller) relatives to go see this movie when it comes out in the Fall. I can't wait to share piece of my childhood with them through this movie.
Goosebumps will be in theaters October 16th, 2015b
