Can you feel it?
Can you feel the force?
If not, get ready to! Star Wars Battlefront is being remade, and it looks freaking awesome. It's being developed by EA DICE and is currently slated for a holiday 2015 release.
Fans of the film franchise might also be familiar with the previous Battlefront games, wherein you play as members of either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire and engage in fierce combat with the opposing forces.
The upcoming remake of the original Battlefront looks stellar, with richly designed environments and character models. Players now have the ability to seamlessly switch between third- and first-person perspectives, access to new vehicles and weapons, and more varied maps on the four planets so far announced.
There has been some backlash from devoted fans of the original for the fact that this remake has cut out the space battles that were popular in the original game. In response to this criticism, DICE General Manager Patrick Bach said this:
“We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don’t want players to fly off and do something over here,” Bach told OPM UK. “It’s about the Battlefrontexperience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry.”
So it seems like the developers want to keep the action focused on the battlefield itself, which is hard to fault them for. Instead of potentially biting off more than they can chew, they elected to focus on making sure the battlefield is as well developed as they can make it.
The game is scheduled for a November 17, 2015 release. Check out the trailer:
