How To Get That Summertime Bikini Line

Skin Prep

Whether you're a seasoned pro or this is your first time trying this out, the bikini line is only tricky when attempted the wrong way. Most don't know or forget to prep the skin to begin with. This means trimming hairs with scissors to less than 1/4 inch in length (if this is your first time). Next, you want the skin damp with hot water as this relaxes the skin and makes the hair follicles tender.

Two Razors

Did you know that you're supposed to have TWO RAZORS?! One for your 'down there' parts and one that you use for your legs and under arms. Not only that, but the razor for your bikini line SHOULD NOT HAVE MORE THAN TWO BLADES. Toss these blades after the 3rd use or as soon as you see skin buildup. To get your blade to last a long time, click here to see how.

Exfoliate Weekly

This is best done once a week and not more than that because it can break down the skin making the bikini area irritated and excruciatingly painful when shaving. Click here to see three easy ways to create exfoliating paste from your own kitchen.

Pre-Shave Moisturizer

While in the shower, apply a small amount of unscented moisturizer. This IS NOT SHAVING CREAM! This is just moisturizer to prep the bikini line for the actual shaving event.

Glide With Hair

Never shave against the growth of the hair. While doing so may give a "closer" shave, it's thwarted by broken skin, irritation, and ingrown hairs. So don't to it. Just go with the flow. Also, your razor should glide over the skin. It shouldn't have a death grip against your skin. Be gentle, making few long strokes, rather than lots of short strokes.

Moisturize Again

As soon as you've finished, you want to moisturize the area immediately. This is to soothe the skin from any harsh effects of your shave. Since hot porous skin, right after a shower, takes to moisturizer best, it's even better to use a colloidal oatmeal, which calms the skin naturally. Aveeno Active Naturals is an example of this type of moisturizer.
