In Defense Of New Jersey
New Jersey gets a bad rep. It's the butt of every joke. People call it the 'armpit of America', and what's the difference between Jersey girls and trash? Trash actually gets picked up, of course. Growing up in New Jersey, we all kind of knew that the rest of the country thought we were lame. However, regardless of our reputation, most of us couldn't be prouder to be from our peanut-shaped state. Want to know why? Here's why. We've got shopping malls for days! You want clothes? We got clothes. Food courts? Fountains? Arcades? Yeah, we've got all that covered. Head over to Palisades Center Mall (which, to be fair, is in New York, but like, barely, okay?!), and you can go to a mall with its very own FERRIS WHEEL. You think New York pizza is good? You've never been to Jersey. The Italian food in Jersey is unsurpassed perfection. Like, sure, you've got some great restaurants in NYC, but where do you think these guys' Sicilian nonnas live? That's right. In Jersey. We're eating cannoli so authentic that it's straight from your grandma. Our communities are bursting with culture. New Jersey has the third largest immigration population in the country, which means that our communities are incredibly diverse. When we're in school, we learn so much about each other's cultures, and in turn, gain a broader, more developed worldview. The Statue of Liberty is ours. Sorry, New York. So when people think of New York City, one of the things that they think of is the Statue of Liberty. What a lot of people DON'T know is the Statue of Liberty is technically in Jersey City, as the NJ/NY border is right down the middle of the Hudson. We have Wawa. You guys. WE HAVE WAWA. I'll be honest. I actually didn't live next to a Wawa when I lived in Jersey, but whenever we'd go on road trips through the state, we'd stop at a Wawa on the way. Who knew that a hoagie from a touch-screen vending machine could be as delicious as this?! Visiting the shore? Visit your Monopoly property in person. So if you've played Monopoly, you know all about the Boardwalk, Park Place, Atlantic Avenue, etc. But did you know that all the streets on the board were named after actual streets in Atlantic City? Oh yeah, get some salt water taffy while you're there, too. We gave you Paul Rudd, Shaq, Danny Devito, and Meryl Streep. We even gave you Fetty Wap, Kevin Smith, and the guy who wrote Game of Thrones. Hey, other states, we're getting stuff done. What have you done for us lately, huh? Our accent strikes fear into the hearts of men. Thanks to The Sopranos and classic mafia movies like The Godfather and Goodfellas, when people outside of Jersey hear our accent, we sound aggressive as hell. Even when we're harmless. Which is good because talking's cheaper than buying pepper spray. So who else here is from Jersey (or who's visited)? Are you a Jersey fan or just another lowlife gavone? And if you think where YOU live is superior, feel free to make your very own 'In Defense Of' card giving your home state a little love.
Foodie Bucket List: EXTREME Bloody Mary Cocktails!
I love me a good Bloody Mary. They're savory, they're spicy, and they've got the perfect amount of kick to make your Sunday brunch more exciting. My favorite Bloody Mary? La Cita Bar in Downtown LA's Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary - a nice and spicy variation with whatever shrimp, bacon, cheese, olives, okra, and so many other yummy things you'd like on top. However, now that I've sufficiently become a foodie of the internet, I've been finding more and more of Bloody Mary spots trying to come after my heart - and the wasted, slightly pickled remnants of my poor, young liver. Here's my Bloody Mary bucket list. Prepare to drool. Buffalo & Bergen at Union Market Washington, D.C. Lox and cream cheese bagels are my absolute favorite breakfast sandwich on-the-go. Pair that with a beautifully built Bloody Mary? Yes, please! Sobelman's Pub & Grill Milwaukee, Wisconsin Meet Sobelman's infamous Bloody Beast - a massive Bloody Mary that made this pub a pretty hot destination. The drink is customarily topped with a full fried chicken, but stop in during Valentine's Day for this adorable heart-shaped house pretzel! The Fish Hopper Monterrey, California This Ultimate Seafood Bloody Mary brings the spirit of New England to Monterrey Bay. The drink is topped with freshly shucked oysters, prawns, Dungeness crab, and assorted veggies, but the skewered crab cake slider is the REAL star of this show. Sunda Chicago, Illinois Bloody Marys aren't usually on the drink list at Asian restaurants, but at Chicago's fusion hotspot Sunda, their Sumo Mary's turning heads. With lumpia, a duck bao bun, pork belly, and sushi among the garnish, you've got a well-rounded pan-Asian punch! Target Field Minneapolis, Minnesota Dig into the spirit of baseball while digging into this epic ballpark cocktail. The home stadium of the Minnesota Twins is also the birth place of the College Daze Bloody Mary - served up with a slice of pepperoni pizza! So where are my fellow Bloody Mary lovers? Got another one that you think should make it on my list? Sound off in the comments below!
On a serious note
Guys this isn't kpop related, I have posted this to all communities, but can we take a minute, or 10 that this video takes, to really understand what is going on in our world today. At first I flupped passed this video. I admit, I didn't want to watch something again about mass shootings. But then I clicked on it and watched all the way through. What are these emotions I am feeling. It is like Eugene unlocked a blocked door inside me and opened my eyes. YES I am in the generation of the millennials, YES I am 5 years younger than him, YES I can have a say in what happens next in my life time, YES there is ways we can start the change. I always keep saying that I want to live at sea for the sole reason of running away from humans and not standing up for what I BELIEVE. But if Eugene, a ordinary person can make a youtube video expressing his memories and emotions regarding this issue, than why can't I stand up and do the same? Here is me, standing up for what I believe. DO NOT stand to the side and talk about what you think should be done all the while not doing anything. DO NOT go into this up coming election blindly. DO NOT say anything is impossible. With time and enough motivation from people things can get done. Not just US millennials, but the entire global body can stand together and become ONE, United We Stand. Thank you Eugene for guiding me to this blocked door. I have opened that door and I'm willing to do everything in MY power to succeed in spreading word to thise who don't understand. This post isn't about guns and gun laws. It isn't about the LBGT community. It isn't about the presidential election this year. The sole purpose for this is to talk about VIOLENCE. The other topics fall into the place of violence. So please, take a moment and open your eyes and ears to what is really going on in our world and ask yourself this simple question, What Am I Doing That Can Help Our World Move Forward?
