Earlier today, the teaser trailer for David O. Russell's next film Joy was released. And it looks like he's working with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper again. He's worked with them on American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, two films that I thoroughly enjoyed. If Russell's history with these two actors tell us anything, it's that Joy has will probably be a pretty great film.
Even though it's just a teaser trailer, I can already see Russell's directorial skills come through. Some of the shots throughout the teaser are shot so well that they increase my already high anticipation for this film. About halfway through the teaser, the camera (or whatever is framed within the shot) is in constant movement. By putting emphasis on motion it almost forces the audience to pay more attention than we normally would. Russell allows us to experience visual poetry within each scene in the teaser.
Another thing that has my excitement level at a pretty high level is the fact that he's working with actors that he's worked with before. There's something about certain director/actor relationships that bring out the best in both artists. I'm interested to see how this film turns out when it's finally released.
Joy will be in theaters on December 25th, 2015
