5 TV Shows You Need to Catch Up On Right Now

Summer is a notoriously slow tv season.

Almost all of your favorite shows are on hiatus until the fall, and the ones that aren't (Suits, Teen Wolf) are great, but definitely not enough for someone like me. I'm always looking for new stories. I *want* to be on the edge of my seat, dying to find out what's going to happen next. And I'm never happy with just one or two shows. I need several.
If you're like me, you're probably craving something to watch that isn't another Law & Order rerun. Here are a few shows a lot of people missed when they aired. This is the perfect time to catch up, so you'll be ready when they return!

Agent Carter

This show is way more than a Marvel spinoff. If you like hard-boiled detective stories, kickass female protagonists, and action scenes that give you a serious adrenaline rush, you need to give Agent Carter a chance. The protagonist, Peggy, is an action hero despite the fact that she doesn't have any superpowers. And unlike some other Marvel media, you don't need to be a die-hard Marvel fan to understand what's going on.
You can watch some of the episodes here. And keep an eye out for the release date announcement for season 2!

The 100

Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, The 100 starts out slow and gains momentum as the series progresses. If you're looking for something with a strong ensemble cast, nail-biting suspense, and high stakes, The 100 is definitely what you should check out next. The cast of teens and adults all have compelling (if sometimes shaky) storylines, and the world-building is totally brilliant. This show is not for the faint of heart, and could definitely give The Hunger Games a run for its' money.
You can watch episodes here, season 3 is set to be released early next year.

Jane the Virgin

I'll be the first to say that I was not impressed with the marketing for this show. I'm so glad I gave it another chance! If you want something clever, engaging, with extremely tight writing, you need to see Jane the Virgin. This show is absolutely hilarious, with a diverse cast of characters you either love, or love to hate, and a plot that's so well-conceived you'll forget for a second that it's inspired by a Telenovela. If that's not enough, the show won a Peabody award, which "recognizes distinguished and meritorious public service", and probably has something to do with the show's dedication to focusing on the political concerns of the Latino community in the U.S.
You can watch clips and episodes here, but hurry up, the show returns October 19th, 2015.

The Leftovers

This show is super weird and depressing, but in a good way, I promise. If you like intellectual dramas, ambiguity, and subtle horror, you've got to see The Leftovers. Based on a novel by Tom Perrota, the show imagines a world where millions of people have disappeared. Was it the Rapture? Or something else? And what should the people left behind make of it?
If you have HBO, you'll be able to watch episodes here. And get ready, the show returns this Fall.

The Comeback

This self-aware series by Lusa Kudrow (of Friends fame) is definitely the best comedy that everybody missed. If you enjoy gallows humor, awkwardness, and mockumentary-style acting, you'll enjoy The Comeback. It's a brilliant take down of celebrity culture by someone who knows the ins and outs of the industry. Kudrow is showing off her talents here, and you easily forget that this isn't a documentary.
This is another HBO series, which you can watch here. Keep an eye out for season 3!

Happy watching Vinglers!

The 100 is my show. Can't wait for the next season. Is the first season. of Agent Carter is out? I'll probably start watching before the second one comes. I think i heard something about The Leftovers. I have not heard of The Comeback.
@CleoHoney I AM IN LOVE WITH BELLAMY BLAKE. That show really got me hooked, all the characters are really interesting. And yes, season one of Agent Carter is out and amazing and I 100% recommend it.
(don't read this comment if you haven't seen The 100 and about to watch) @shannonl5 I agree with you. In that one season when they were battling the Grownders, there was a bomb or smokey acid in the air that was going to kill the Grounders while everyone hides in this pod thing.Finn didn't make it to the pod and Bellamy looked at Clarke and Finn and ran to Finn to save him. there was too much smoke and they locked them out and i was like "Nooo! Bellamy, don't die." And the next episode tells you they did or didn't survive. Love Bellamy <3
@CleoHoney haha thanks for tagging your spoilers :D I think Bellamy is such a great hero to be honest. I love how in the first season the show set him up the be an antagonist to Clarke, but as it progresses you realize that they both need to work together, that both of their ideas have pros and cons and neither one is 100% right all of the time. It makes for a really interesting, complex relationship and I'm so excited to see more!
