It's no secret that Drarry (Draco/Harry) is my OTP.
Not that I don't respect any other ships. I staunchly believe that fandom should be the one place where we can all safely love whatever it is we love, so I am all about letting people ship whoever they want. This ship just happens to be my personal favorite.
@LizArnone requested some fic recs, so after some careful consideration, here are my safe-for-work favorites. I'll do another card with the rated M ones.
Are you ready to believe?
Draco hides from the Dark Lord for as long as he can. When hiding is no longer an option, he goes to Harry Potter for help. In exchange for protection, he ends up hunting horcruxes with him. Meanwhile, the war hasn't been going well. Harry and his friends are struggling to find all the Horcruxes and defeat Voldemort. Draco has information that they need. But can they trust him?
Four years after Dumbledore's death, Draco Malfoy shows up on the doorstep of number twelve, Grimmauld Place looking for Harry Potter. Torn between his own self-preservation and his family's pride, Draco finds himself alone on a battlefield and has nowhere else to turn; and Harry has to learn that sometimes you don't put up walls to keep other people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.
Read this if you love cranky Draco Malfoy and complex world-building. And won't be mad at a WIP.
The last year at Hogwarts nobody got to have. After it seems like Slytherin is going to be gone for good, Harry convinces Draco to come back. It’s only then that they both begin to see the toll the war took. Hogwarts is still rebuilding itself, and the people inside it are still struggling to get on after everything they endured.
Voldemort’s final defeat does not mean Harry Potter’s troubles are over; far from it. In the aftermath of war, he returns to a Hogwarts that is fractured and divided, but this is no break that can be fixed with a spell. New owls, fading scars, surprising alliances– and along the way, the hardest task of all, to live with it.
Read this if you love a slow burn, and are a little more attached to the canon.
Written before the last books were released, so a few details are different. After the war, it's discovered that Draco used his position to spy on Voldemort for the Order. Now, he's testifying against Death Eaters, and people are making attempts on his life. Harry is the auror assigned to protect him. Romance ensues.
A love story concerning possessed furniture, black silk pyjamas, courtroom drama, premonitions of doom, assassination attempts, Death Eater yoga, absinthe, bare feet and a sensible werewolf. Beware: coarse language, brief drug use, some sexual content, and consideration of issues of sexual consent.
Read this if you want something hilarious and heartbreaking all at once.
Do people generally know what sentinels are? They come from a TV show that aired from 1996-99. They have heightened senses, and they need guides to help them focus them (and there’s also a vaguely defined spiritual element… did I mention this was the 90s?).
Anyway, Harry finds out he’s a sentinel. Draco is his guide. They have a soul bond (which is secretly my favorite trope when done well). Their spiritual connection increases their magical power, but it means they're forced to spend time together. OF COURSE they fall in love. Honestly what are you expecting at this point?
Everything changes the summer after fifth year. Draco refuses to take the Dark Mark and must deal with leaving behind the life, friends and family he's always known. The Dursley's abandon Harry alone in the woods for a week, triggering his Sentinel gifts and leaving him hurting and in need of a Guide. Can two rivals put aside five years worth of antagonism in order to work together to save Hogwarts and each other?
Read this if you want the perfect combination of tried-and-true tropes and compelling plot.
The camping trip from hell, written before the official book of the same name. Draco abducts Harry for Voldemort, and it seems like Harry is powerless. But while Draco is guarding him, Harry challenges everything Draco has ever known, and the Death Eater in-training begins to realize how warped his worldview actually is.
Draco swore his revenge on Harry for Lucius’s imprisonment, and Harry all but laughed at him. But Draco is planning more than schoolyard pranks this time. The old rivalry turns deadly when Draco abducts Harry for Voldemort. It’s the perfect plan, guaranteeing revenge, power, and prestige, all in one blow. But when Draco’s world turns upside down, the fight to save himself and Harry begins, and the battle will take them both through hell and back. If they come back.
