An average woman lose about 50 to 100 strands per day. So, don't freak out if you see a couple of strands whirling in your tub.

How can you tell if you lose an excessive amount of hair:

Grab a section of hair (about 60 strands) between your fingers and pull, running your fingers through your hair.
Normal: About 5-8 strands fall out.
Excessive: 15 strands or more.
Please note, for most people, 90% of the hair on your head is in the growing phase and 10% is in the resting phase. This means the 10% will fall out to encourage new hair growth within a certain period of time. Hence, losing more than 15 strands per pull simply means more than 10% of your hair is in the resting phase. So, it is common for some people to lose more.
What causes excessive strands to fall off?
There are many reason but the most common and harmless ones are stress and lack of vitamin. If you are not stress and is taking vitamins, then talk to your doctor. It's better than being anxious about it!
@JudithAyala I had the same reaction until I did some research because I was dying to know. I normally don't have lots of hair falling off when I shower but recently I've been noticing excessive shedding. It turns out I was a little stress and not sleeping enough...
I almost had mini heart attacks when I saw my hair falling, good to know it's normal :-)
