Love takes a taxi [LotD #36]
The Lyric of the Day for Tuesday joins us courtesy of The Avett Brothers, A band that I am generally surprised to admit that I love as much as I do. Some of their music is less than interesting, but for some reason, the combination of brotherhood, solid guitar playing and typically awesome lyrics puts any of the bad out of my mind. I really like them as a band. The song for today is "A Ballad of Love and Hate," a truly beautiful song that actually represents a lot of what I just mentioned. It at first comes off as sort of forced, but the truth is that it's just a really pretty piece of music.
Love and Hate undergo an exchange of letters, paraphrased in the song's lyrics. Here's one stanza:
"Love takes a taxi, a young man drives.
As soon as he sees her, hope fills his eyes.
But tears follow after, at the end of the ride,
'Cause he might never see her again."
Fleeting love. A dramatically beautiful thing.
