Self-Realizations: An Open Letter To My Former Self
You did it. You finally did it. After the endless nights you stayed up on job sites applying for endless positions in the concrete jungle you so badly wanted to be a part of. You defeated the odds. When you got frustrated and angry because you felt like you were wasting your time, you never once gave up. Okay, maybe once -- but that didn't last long at all.
Look at where you are? You made it. You're finally living out your dream. Yes, your dream and nobody else's. Everyone who said your dream was too far fetch and you needed to have a game plan, you tuned them out -- not because you were angry, but because you knew you were capable of making things happen. You never once forgot the verse your mother instilled in your hard head from a very young age:
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
You're here now living the dream. Is it everything you dreamed it would be? The big city, the fast paced lifestyle, streets filled of people and the pungent smell of garbage. Is it all worth it? Of course it is. You're doing what you always told yourself you were going to do and for that very reason you have every reason to bask in the moment.
They didn't lie when they said it was expensive and they definitely didn't lie when they said it wouldn't be easy because it's everything but. You have an amazing job that you hope turns into something even more amazing. You have a roof over your head -- for the time being. You have food in your refrigerator and clothes on your back. You look around and see streets filled with people who are lost, hungry and looking for love -- that could easily be you. What separates you from them? You have yet to figure that out, but at the end of the day you know where you are and you can't help but smile. You made it. Yes you. New York wasn't ready and it's still not ready for what great things you have in store for your life. Keep pushing and never, ever get up. It always get's harder before it gets easier. Hang in there.
With Love Always,
A huge thank you to @TessStevens for tagging me in her card An Open Letter To My Former Self. It not only opened my eyes to the realization that we are both living the dream that many don't ever get a chance to see, but it opened my eyes to the fact that no matter how long it may take -- your dreams will always come true. Like I always say, if it's meant to be -- it will be. It's only a matter of time.
