Everybody's always in such a rush to fall in love. Surrounded by popular culture's glorification of romance, we're constantly on the prowl for that perfect person, and feel left out, or even like there's something wrong with us, if we're single for too long.
What total craziness! Being single is awesome, and it's prime time to check a couple things off your list – before your soul mate comes along and ties you down. Before you even think about falling in love, make sure you do these 4 things!

1. Spend lots of time figuring out who you are.

Try new things. Discover your passions. Be as awesome as physically possible. That way, when the right person does eventually come along, they'll find you at your best!
If you're not exactly sure how to go about this, check out my card How To Get To Know Yourself Better!

2. Travel – a lot.

Young, single, and unattached? It's the perfect time to see the world. Go on a road trip with your best friends. Really explore the country you grew up in, or one on the other side of the globe. Experience other cultures, make great memories, and take advantage of the single life to kiss a few sexy French boys.

3. Get stable.

In other words, figure out your sh*t. Emotional health is, in my opinion, one of the biggest measures of maturity. Sure, we've all got problems – old scars, traumatic experiences, etc. – but it's your responsibility to learn how to move past yours, and become a healthy, whole person.
I recommend finding somebody smart to talk to, all the better if they're a trained mental health professional. Point is, deal with your sh*t now so your future partner doesn't have to!

4. Play the field.

Can I be super real for a sec? My mom probably wouldn't like to hear me say this, but... seeing TONS of different people really helped me become who I am today. I think that doing the casual thing for a while can be super informative on your path to self-discovery. It doesn't work for everyone, but as for me, going on a lot of casual dates in college, I learned so much about myself and what I need in a partner.
So remember – work on YOU before you have a whole other person to worry about! Become the kind of person you'd fall in love with, and the kind of person who would make a great life partner. Once you've followed these steps, falling in love can't be far off!
Thanks @CarenBoykins! :) I think people often forget that the most important person in a romantic relationship is actually themselves. You've gotta be solid and healthy on your own before you're ready to fall in love!
