The winners of the USA regionals for the International Woolmark prize have just been announced, and Tanya Taylor was awarded the prize for womenswear. The American designer first began designing in 2012, and though she has worked relatively under the radar, she's definitely a talent to watch.
Tanya Taylor has been praised as a master of prints and genius with knits, and I can see why. She pairs similar and contrasting prints so well to break up a typical silhouette into something unexpected. Most of her clothes are pretty wearable (given the funds), especially if you aren't afraid to play with print and embellishment a little. The looks above are all from Taylor's Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection, and I have to say that I would wear all of them.
Taylor is the first choice for many celebrities, including Beyoncé, Jessica Alba, Gillian Jacobs, and so many others. I can see why, as her mixed prints and layered knits are easy picks for sweet dresses and matchy looks that are fun and interesting, and still figure-flattering.
The printmaster definitely has a celebrity fanbase that's sure to grow along with her fame.
Tanya Taylor's Resort 2016 collection was full of contrasting florals, but the bold angles and a-line cuts kept them from being overly girly. Unique to the collection were sportier notes that were achieved through interesting colorblocking and striping.
Taylor herself is pretty cute, pictured in her own design. Put this one on my next designer wish list; I can't say I'd mind wearing Tanya Taylor this fall.
