I'm sure you've heard the tale of Logan Bread. Or then again, maybe you haven't. In that case, let me fill you in on the basics. Logan bread was originally created for a 1950 summit of Mount Logan in the Yukon. The expedition team needed a decent tasting, high calorie, indestructible, and non-perishable source of energy. Alas, Logan Bread emerged as the distance hiker's ideal backpacker food. There are a zillion versions of this bread if you need to substitute different ingredients, but here's the one I use from: http://howtowilderness.com/2012/07/29/how-to-survive-logan-bread/ Dry Ingredients: 2 C Wheat Flour 2 C White Flour 2 C Quick Oats 3/4 C Brown Sugar 1/2 C Powdered Milk 2 teaspoons Baking Powder 1 teaspoon Salt 1 teaspoon Nutmeg 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Wet Ingredients: 1 1/2 C Water 3/4 C Honey 1/2 C Molasses 3/4 C Oil Goodies: 1 1/2 C Almond Pieces 1 1/2 C Dried Cranberries 1-2 C Dark Chocolate Chips Directions: Heat Oven to 300 F In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients Add Liquid Ingredients and stir thoroughly Add Goodies. Feel free to improvise your own. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan Cook at 300 for one hour. Remove from oven, and cut into desired pieces (2 x 3 inches) Return to oven at lowest setting possible, with door slightly open Cook for another hour or so to further dry Remove, cool, then wrap cut squares in plastic
ah, that's the first time I've ever heard of that. Very interesting and eerily similar!
Well, the Wiki says "Lembas, also called Waybread in the Common Speech, was a special food made by the elves. The cakes were very nutritious, stayed fresh for months when wrapped in leaves, and were used for sustenance on long journeys. Lembas was a brownish colour on the outside and a cream colour on the inside." Funny, it sounds a lot like this bread! :D
haha, that's hilarious. What's the bread they eat? I've never read LotR
This is a very cool recipe and you're awesome for sharing it. :) Although, how big of a nerd am I, because I automatically thought of LotR and the bread they eat during their travels.
